Mark Cortes Favis is an editorial consultant and writer based in London. With 15 years of experience, he has a proven track record of strategic leadership, developing and mentoring talented teams, and implementing effective publishing strategies that foreground high-quality scholarship and innovative editorial design.

In 2015, Mark helped establish and lead the publishing department, programme and business strategy at the Design Museum in London, where he served as the Publishing Manager for nearly eight years. During his tenure, he commissioned and oversaw the publication of over 40 titles, including four of the museum’s bestselling books to date: Ferrari: Under the Skin (2017, co-published with Phaidon), Electronic: From Kraftwerk to the Chemical Brothers(2020), Charlotte Perriand: The Modern Life (2021), and Football: Designing the Beautiful Game (2022). Other significant titles include California: Designing Freedom (2017, co-published with Phaidon), Waste Age: What Can Design Do? (2021), and his final publication, Ai Weiwei: Making Sense (2023), which was praised by the artist for its exceptional presentation of his work.

Before delving into illustrated book publishing, Mark held the position of Managing Editor for the Aristotelian Society, the longest-running philosophy journal in the UK (est. 1880) which is co-published by Oxford University Press. In this role, he managed the publication of 15 digital and print editions of the journal. Most notably, his leadership drove substantial audience growth through a comprehensive digital and branding strategy overhaul, successfully transitioning the Society into the digital age.

 

Mark is currently providing editorial services and strategic publishing consultation for esteemed institutions such as the Jencks Foundation at the Cosmic House, an architecture museum based in West London. He has also been commissioned by the Design Council, the UK’s national strategic advisor for design, to write and edit a major publication commemorating its 80th anniversary.
