About

Editor, writer, publishing puppet master. Pulling the strings so everything – and everyone – falls into place.

Most manuscripts, even the best ones, start off a bit … feral. That’s where I come in. I work with writers, publishers and cultural institutions to tame unruly drafts, untangle convoluted prose and ensure every word pulls its weight. Whether it’s a novel, a museum catalogue or an academic tome gasping for clarity, I bring the editorial expertise and publishing know-how to cut through the chaos and get it over the finish line – intact, coherent and (crucially) publishable. With 15+ years in editorial and publishing, I’ve collaborated with some of the UK’s leading cultural and educational institutions, specialising in structural editing, book development and publishing strategy – basically, making sure words and ideas come together in a way that’s clear, compelling and (importantly) out there in the world.

The Fine Print
What’s My Approach?

Working with me is like sending your manuscript to a luxury spa – expect expert care, rejuvenation and maybe even a little tough love, minus the cucumber slices. My goal is to preserve your voice while sharpening your work, ensuring it lands exactly how and where you want it to – out in the world, and worthy of the shelf.

I’m meticulous but not pedantic, detail-oriented but big-picture focused. Whether you need a structural overhaul, a fine-toothed comb edit or just someone to reassure you that your book isn’t a disaster, I’m here to help. I bring a mix of expertise, intuition and just the right amount of good-humoured pragmatism to every project.

How Did I Get Here?

My publishing career has woven through museums, academic institutions and independent publishing houses. I founded and ran publishing at the Design Museum, shaping its editorial direction and overseeing books that have been featured in The New York Times, Flaunt Magazine, The Guardian, BBC Radio 4 and – for my most unexpected claim to fame – the in-flight magazine for British Airways (lol).

I’ve also worked with the Design Council, The Bartlett School of Architecture and the Jencks Foundation at the Cosmic House, leading publication projects that bring structure, strategy and a keen editorial eye to everything from dense philosophical journals to visually stunning exhibition books.

Over the years, I’ve collaborated with some big names in art, design and luxury, from Paul Smith to Ferrari (because nothing says ‘precision editing’ like a 200mph supercar). I once received a voice message from Ai Weiwei, who told me I brought out the best in his work – a compliment I’d absolutely print on a T-shirt if I could!

Most recently, I edited Eight Decades of British Design: The Design Council, 1944 to Today (2024), a comprehensive look at British design history – one of those rare books where the editor actually gets their name on the cover.

Let’s Work Together

Based in London but originally from America, I’m a US citizen and fully able to work with American publishers, cultural organisations and institutions. I regularly work across time zones and maintain strong ties to California, Chicago and New York – so whether you’re in London or Los Angeles, I can help.

If your manuscript needs a little structure, a publishing plan or just some good old-fashioned word therapy, get in touch. I’d love to hear about your project – no hourly rate, couch or deep emotional breakthroughs required.

✈️ US-based?

No worries – as a US citizen I can work directly with American clients, coordinate across time zones or even meet face to face during my regular stateside jaunts to California, Chicago or New York. One foot in London, one in the US … and both hands on your manuscript 🙌.
