Description
Commissioned to mark the Design Council’s 80th anniversary, Eight Decades of British Design: Design Council, 1944 to Today is a landmark publication that charts the evolution of British design across eight transformative decades — from postwar industrial recovery to contemporary design’s role in activism, sustainability and public life.
As a contributing editor, I worked closely with the Design Council’s leadership and communications teams to shape the editorial structure, commission leading voices in design, and ensure cohesion across essays, image selection and final text. I also contributed original writing to the book and oversaw the publication’s tone, flow and editorial integrity through to print.
With texts by Deyan Sudjic, Penny Sparke, Max Fraser and Priya Khanchandani, the book presents a nuanced view of British design’s influence on industry, identity and culture — from Margaret Calvert’s road signage system and Vivienne Westwood’s punk revolution to Extinction Rebellion’s climate protest graphics and the transformative infrastructure design of the Elizabeth Line.
